Ballet

Cecchetti Syllabus

Ballet is offered within our preschool and combination programs for dancers ages 2–11, as well as a stand-alone class for students ages 5 and up.

Ballet is the foundation of many technical dance styles and helps dancers develop strength, posture, balance, coordination, flexibility, musicality, and grace. In class, students work on proper alignment, body placement, turnout, control, and fluidity while learning classical ballet vocabulary and technique.

Through the Cecchetti syllabus, dancers progress in a structured and thoughtful way, building strong technical habits while also developing discipline, focus, confidence, and artistry. Ballet encourages students to move with both precision and expression, helping them grow not only as dancers, but as creative and confident performers.

Whether a dancer is just beginning or continuing their training, Ballet provides an essential base that supports success in many other styles of dance.

Ballet Technique

Ballet Technique is an additional technique-focused class designed to enhance and build on a dancer’s ballet training. Dancers will work on developing the strength, alignment, posture, flexibility

, balance, coordination, and control needed to support proper ballet technique.

This class will focus on body placement, turnout, barre and centre work, musicality, transitions, quality of movement, and safe execution of ballet steps. Dancers will have the opportunity to strengthen their foundation, refine their technique, and build confidence in the skills that support their overall dance training.

Ballet Technique is mandatory for Intensive ballet dancers as part of their continued technical development. It is also optional for Recreational dancers who are looking to challenge themselves, improve their ballet skills, and further develop their strength, grace, and confidence.

Please note that this class is for skill development only and does not include a performance component.

Pointe

By Invitation Only

Pointe is an advanced extension of ballet training where dancers perform movements while supported on the tips of their toes in specially designed pointe shoes. This beautiful and highly technical style requires strong ballet technique, proper alignment, control, balance, and significant strength through the feet, ankles, legs, and core.

At SBDC, Pointe is available by invitation only for dancers ages 12 and up who are training in ballet at least twice per week. Students are considered for Pointe based on their instructor’s assessment of their technique, strength, maturity, consistency, and readiness for the physical demands of pointe work.

Because safety is our top priority, dancers must demonstrate a strong foundation in ballet before beginning Pointe. Once ready, students will learn how to properly work in their pointe shoes, build strength and stability, and develop the grace, precision, and artistry that pointe work requires.
